Early in 1962 City of San Francisco planned a major observance of the fiftieth anniversary of the Munipical Railway. Mayor George Christopher appointed a Muni Golden Anniversary Citizens' Committee, with the 'cable car lady' Mrs. Friedel Klussman as a chairman, to organize an appropriate celbration. Mack diesel bus 2517 was painted gold and black, lettered 'Golden Coach' and sent to the tour the city with historical exhibits. When it returned to regular service, still in gold livery, it was largely kept on the light 43 Roosevelt line through the Buena Vista residential area.
