At end of 1955, Mack built the 102' wide C-49DT bus with serial No.1179 for demonstration in Canada. It was built to Boston specification with wide front and centre doors; roof marker lights were installed. In 1956 it operated as Montreal Transportation Commission 701 in full MTC paint being equipped with MacKey gates. Later in the same year, Mack arrived in Toronto where the lower part of body was repainted in the TTC dark red color while upper part of the body remained in Montreal's silver color. TTC keystone logo and number 504 were applied and coach operated on the Spadina route but MacKey gates were removed in Toronto. While Montreal was impressed by new Mack bus and ordered fifty (delivered in July-August 1956), Toronto ordered nothing and coach was returned to the builder. It was sold to Redifer Bus Co. in September 1958. [Photo: Pete Coulman collection]. [This special Custom paint order model have all features of the Toronto Mack #504 but use the slighlty shorter California version (274 1/2' wheelbase) body as a base].
