Southern California Rapid Transit District was the successor to the original Metropolitan Transit Authority after it virtually went bankrupt. It took over all of the bus service operated by MTA on November 5, 1964. In 1975, SCRTD purchased a batch of 45 Kansas City GM old look buses. They were numbered into 6600-series and they received an attractive SCRTD brown, gold and white livery. Some of them even were leased by SCRTD to Muni in 1981.
