San Francisco Municipal Railway purchased 380 new trolley coaches between 1947 and 1952, most of them were a Marmon-Herrington products, a new trolley coach builder, entered a market in 1946 with absolutely new model. Its lightweight features, monocoque airplane-type body construction, double girder sidewalls and extreme strength made it the best selling trolley coach of the post war era. In 1950-51 Muni received their order for 110 48-seat coaches, model TC-48. Coaches 740-789 were GE-equipped and coaches 790-849 has WH equipment. The new TC-48s were used for the 1950-51 trolley coach conversion programm. Muni trolley coaches, as well as post war streetcars, also incorporated an unusual design of the deadman pedal. The 740-849 group remained in service until 1977.
