Alexandria Barcroft & Washington Transit Co. provided service between Washington and Alexandria since 1924. Their first diesels were acquired in 1950-51 - 62 GM TDH-4509 buses (801-832 series in December 1950 and 851-880 series in October 1951). The AB&W Transit was acquired by Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority in 1973, primary routes now WMATA routes 1 through 4.
