In 1960, LAMTA was considering using Big PCCs on the former Pacific Electric Long Beach Line, as the 'Blimp' type Red Cars were worn out. For testing, car 3148 was sent to South Park Shops. It was regauged with borrowed Muni standard-gauge trucks, an extra-long trolley pole was installed and shrouding around the trolley base was moved so the pole could be turned, a rear headlight was installed below the rear windows and an automobile horn was installed for grade crossings. However, the track of the line was very rough for PCC and after six test runs the proposal for use the 40 all-electrics on the interurban route was abandoned.
