Early in 1945 St.Louis Public Service Co. (acquired by National City Lines in 1944) ordered 100 PCC cars from St.Louis Car Co. Identical in many aspects to the 1600 series, built in 1941, the whole batch was delivered in the fall of 1946, numbered 1700-1799. When one the most important lines in the city, 40 Broadway was converted to buses in August 1956, many PCCs became the surplus. The very high level of the maintenance of the system has helped to sell the PCCs to other properties. In May 1957 sixty six 1700s were leased to the San Francisco Municipal Railway and they were finally purchased in 1963. 4 additional 1700s were sold to San Francisco in 1961. Ten 1700s were sold to Shaker Heights Rapid Transit in 1959 and 19 cars were sold to Tampico, Mexico in 1961-1964. Only car 1788 remained in St.Louis until the end of rail service in May 1966. 'Stock' version of this model represents the late 40s livery (with silver anticlimbers). 'As delivered' version (with red anticlimbers and aluminum standee windows edging) available on order. Radio antenna is included within the model as separate part.
