In 1959/60 twenty-five all-electrics were repainted to the new tangerine livery; first cars to receive the new paint scheme were cars 3216-3221; it was applied to cars 3197-3215 in 1960. In 1960-61 MTA converted this group of cars to multiple-unit operation (No. 3198 was the first one) and since the fall of 1962 the all-electrics have been in regular service both as singles and in multiple unit two-car trains; three-car trains were also used during emergencies in Lechmere service. In 1960s the original resilent wheels on all-electric cars were replaced by solid steel wheels.
