On August 15th, 1956, D.C. Transit System Inc. (DCTS) took over Capital Transit's operation and in January 1957 car 1575 (from the second batch of standee window PCC) was repainted in the new two-tone Mercury Green, white and flamingo (orange) livery. Until 1960, cars 1467, 1470, 1472, 1475, 1478, 1481-84, 1486-89, 1495, 1497, 1499, 1500, 1508, 1510, 1512 (the 'Silver Sightseer'), 1513, 1521, 1523, 1525-1529 and 1535 received a this new attractive paint scheme. However, the end was close and in January 1962 the last streetcar routes in Washington were abandoned. 33 cars of the 1465-1539 series were sold to Tranvias de Barcelona in 1963-64, two went to Leonard's Department Store in Fort Worth, TX in 1962 and car 1470 was preserved at Roanoke Transportation Museum.
