Car 1630 was built by St.Louis Car Co. with an experimental forced air ventilation system and Pittsurgh Railways was satisfied with its design, so the 1700-series all-electrics were ordered with the same design. This car remained one-of-a-kind in the fleet until spring 1961 when the forced air ventilation system was removed.
