In August 1945 Detroit Department of Street Railways ordered two PCC demonstrator PCC cars from St.Louis Car Co. and to increase the speed of delivery, two cars (1674 and 1675) were diverted from Pittsburgh's Job 1646, fitted with B-2 trucks from Washington's order and were shipped to D.S.R. in September 1945. They arrived in Detroit in the Pittsburgh Railways red and cream colors and were numbered 100 and 101. Cars were immediately placed in service on Woodward Avenue line. D.S.R. was evidently impressed with their new cars and shortly placed an order to St.Louis Car Co. for 78 all-electric PCC cars..
