In 1936 Kansas City Public Service announced the plans to purchase 100 PCC cars over the next four years, but because of the financial problems only twenty-four cars were ordered in November 1940 at St.Louis Car Co. They were delivered to the KSPS in 1941; sixteen cars (701-716) were GE-equipped and remaining eight (717-724) had Westinghouse equipment. The streamliners entered service in July 1941 on Troost Ave. line (route 50).
