In October 1939 Pittsburgh Railways Co. placed new order to St.Louis Car Co. for 100 more PCC cars, which were deliveried between March and July 1940. Following standard PRCo practice, seventy-five cars (1200-1274) were Westinghouse equipped and other twenty-five (1275-1299) had GE motors and control. 1200-series cars were the first cars with the longer cowl in front of the trolley pole base, which also included the air intake for cooling traction controls and motors. Car 1253 operated as demonstrator in Louisville in October 1940 and car 1264 was displayed but not operated in Buffalo in July 1941. Car 1230 was equipped with various experimental B-3 trucks in 1940/41-1946, and the test results allowed St.Louis Car Co. to start the serial production of B-3s after the war. This group of cars were delivered with mohair seats (replaced later by leather). The 1200-series cars were withdrawn from service in 1963-64. The 'stock' version represents the 'as delivered' condition with tan canvas roof and trolley pole shroud. The all-cream roof version (1950s) available on request, please specify with order.
