In 1938 Brooklyn Manhattan Transit (BMT) ordered a three-unit articulated train from Clark Equipment Co. with standard PCC trucks and control equipment. This lightweight aluminum car, called “Bluebird” for its bright painting, provided a very high standard of comfort and a new order of 50 sets went also to Clark Co. Unfortunately, only 5 sets were built because the City of New York Mayor F.LaGuardia had no interest of streetcars and elevated lines and the rest of the order was canceled. The “Bluebirds” remained in service until 1956.
