Pittsburgh Railways Co., pleased with its first PCC cars, ordered one hundred more from St.Louis Car Co. in April 1937. The new cars were basically the same as 1000-series cars, which were delivered to the steel city between January and May 1937, but they had one-piece destination sign glass and holes for putting sand into sand box on car sides were omitted. The 1100-1199 series was delivered to Pittsburgh between September 1937 and January 1938. As delivered, the 1100-series cars had cream canvas roofs, but with first repaints the canvas part of the roof was repainted black. First half of the 1100s (cars 1100-1149) were delivered with mohair seats (later changed to leather). As usual, 75 cars were fitted with Westinghouse motors and controls (cars 1100-1174) and remaining cars (1175-1199) were GE-equipped. The 'stock' version represents the 'as delivered' condition with cream canvas roof. The black canvas roof version (post 1940) available on request, please specify with order.
