In June 1935 Brooklyn & Queens Transit Corporation awarded two PCC construction contracts. Clark Equipment Co. built Brooklyn PCC 1000 and St.Louis Car Co. received order for 99 PCC cars (Job 1600), which were delivered between August 1936 and January 1937. Most of their life was spent on routes 68 Smith-Coney Island, 69 McDonald-Vanderbuilt and 67S Seventh Ave., all of which received the new cars between October 1, 1936 and January 20, 1937. For new streamliners, Brooklyn selected an all-new livery, using the DuPpont Cordova Gray (a very warm gray) unborken except for a Mountain Laurel Scarlet red beltrail and dark blue-green moldings. The 'next car' light was installed above the headlight to tell the prospective passengers that the car was full.
