In 1944 Virginia Transit Company purchased the transit systems in Richmond and Norfolk and took over operations. In 1956-57 operator acquired 25 large GM TDH-5105 buses for use in Richmond and twenty more for use in Norfolk. In 1957 the first air-conditioned buses – the “Frosty Fleet” – began operating and by 1967 most of the fleet was air-conditioned.
