The Evanston Bus Company began operating bus service in Evanston in 1924 and lasted until 1973, when the Evanston Bus Company ceased operations after a lengthy strike. No buses operated in Evanston until October 1973 when the city of Evanston began subsidizing service operated by CTA. In the 1950s, Evanston Bus Co. standartized mostly on the GM TDH-4509/4512 coaches, first of them were delivered in January 1950 (211-215 series). The next batch of five TDH-4509 buses (216-220 series) was acquired in December 1952. The company also had fifteen GM TDH-4512 buses of 221-235 series.
