In October 1946 Los Angeles Transit Lines placed the order for 40 extra-wide all-electric PCC cars to St.Louis Car Co. This order surprised many observers as the company was owned by Nacional City Lines (NCL) since January 1945. This group of 'Big PCCs' (officially named as P-3 class) arrived in September and October 1948, beign numbered 3126-3165. On 15th October 1948 they entered service on line P, releasing many older PCC cars to other lines. Except for the final day of service in 1963, the Big PCCs were only used on Pico-East First route. New all-electrics were 9' wide, they had an amber tinted standee windows and improved narrow-gauge trucks.
