San Francisco Municipal Railway received ten dual-engine Twin Coach Model 44-D buses in May 1946. They were intended as cable car replacement, started with Powell Street,but public opposition defeated this plan. Later one of the engines was removed and as single-motor coaches they were used throughout the system and were withdrawn from service in 1953. Coaches 0163 and 0165 were saved.
