In 1947 the Commonwealth of Massachusetts purchased the Boston Elevated Railway and constituted it as the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA). The new MTA 'Map' logo was applied to all-electrics; the 'Chartered Buses' signs were added some later. Between 1948 and 1950 nine transverse seats on all-electric cars were replaced by single seats. After closure of the City Point lines in 1953, all-electrics were used in Cambridge; in 1956 twelve cars (3197-3213) were sent to Mattapan; cars 3214-3321 remained in Cambridge until 1958 when cars 3214 and 3215 were moved to Mattapan, while cars 3216-3221 moved to Arborway.
