The Capital Transit's PCC retrofit program was started in 1947. It inlcluded repaint the PCC fleet in the new Dulux colors introduced with 1465-1589 class and aslo a new distinctive Capital Transit script logo. It was also applied to the 1540-1589 class when repainted. In the later years the dark gray striping was also omitted on most cars. When built, these cars had a dark brown stripe across the beige 'V' on front of the car, this was also omitted at the repainting and the configuration of the beige 'V' was also changed. In this livery the 1540-1589 class remained in service until 1956 when the D.C. Transit System Inc. (DCTS) took over the Capital Transit's operations.
