In July 1936 Pittsburgh Railways Co. placed its first order for 100 PCC cars, which were shipped to steel city between January and May 1937. They were numbered into 1000-series, seventy-five of them were WH-equipped (1000-1074) and twenty-five (1075-1099) were fitted with GE equipment. As demonstrator No. 100, these cars had a split destination signs. New cars were placed in service initially on routes served prestige residential neighborhoods. Cars 1000-1049 were built with leather seats, while remaining fifty cars (1050-1099) had a mohair seats. In 1938 car 1095 was equipped with B2 trucks from Washington for opearation as demonstrator in Cleveland. As delivered, the 1100-series cars had cream canvas roofs, but with first repaints the canvas part of the roof was repainted black. The 'stock' version represents the 'as delivered' condition with cream canvas roof. The black canvas roof version (post 1940) available on request, please specify with order.
