In 1918-19 PRT received 80 cars of 5000-series (A-11 class), funded by goverment U.S. Housing Corp., which were similar in many ways to the 4000-series, but were not equipped for multiple unit operation. They had the standard K controllers instead of the HL controllers which were used on the 4000s. They were purchased by PRT soon after the War and even 30 additional cars were ordered at this time from Brill; the whole class was numbered 5000-5109. During depression many of them were stored or converted to utility service. In the spring of 1933 a group of 34 high-numbered 5000s were converted to one-man operation (A-30 class) for use on the Rt.37, the interurban-like Chester Short Line. The 5000s were retired in 1956.
